like the best thing that's happened

in a long time.

He giggles

as I curse under my breath,

trying to find a way to get him out of his off-duty suit.

The Commander,

the feared Spectre.

Giggling.)

This stupid suit!

The blasted thing

has a texture like rubber

and is easy to slip out of

when you're the one slipping out of it.

The look that Kaidan was giving him… it felt like he was dying all over again. He'd never seen those brown eyes so cold before.

"It's not like that, I'm not…" Markus sighed, "There's more to it than just that."

"I thought you were dead, Shepard," he growled, shaking his head slowly, "We all did. And then I find out you're not only alive, but you're working with terrorists?"

Kaidan twirled the fire extinguisher's nozzle around, exasperated, "You manage to be so nonchalant about the fact that you just started a fire, on a frigate, with highly combustible fuel that could blast us past the edges of the galaxy."

She glared at him, "You're being dramatic. There was no need for you to come barreling out of Starboard Observation sounding the fire alarm over a little kitchen mishap."

It was his turn to glare back.

A quick drink It's late.

I'm going over everything

The light on the screen is a mild blue. The lights are off. I prefer working in the dark.

My fingers dance over our plans as I walk to the door. It slides open with a quiet

swoosh.

I nearly walk right into him.

"Ah,"

he says.

"Can't sleep either?"

Kaidan.

"Nah," I mutter.

He smiles, understands.

Walks past me into my quarters.

Gestures to my messy desk.

"Well,"

he says.

"making yourself crazy with this

won't help."

He is holding a bottle of wine. It's the bottle I brought him

in the hospital.
